Design Notes: Tannhauser

I’m not sure at what point in my opera journey I first read the synopsis of Tannhauser, but it could go right back to a book of Wagner Librettos I bought at a library sale for $1 about 20 years ago.
I wasn’t even an opera fan then, just a student of mythology and I wanted to read The Ring and the Arthurian pieces. But I thumbed thru them all and that image of leaves sprouting from the Pope’s old wooden staff has stuck with me. As Istarted my business every time I saw leaf beads I thought: Tannhauser!
This is a tale of big emotions: love, devotion, temptation and
redemption. But in the end we relate to these legendary characters because it’s
also about unrequited love, disappointment and just not being satisfied.
I
represented the different women/kinds of love between which Tannhauser is
pulled by including red hearts(sensual love) and clear hearts for pure, spiritual
love. Bright green glass leaves represent the leaves - the “miracle of
mercy”. Charms evoke Venus and Elizabeth while a large gold leaf charm
completes the bracelet. Please visit the product page to see all
the photos and details of the Tannhauser’s Redemption Bracelet.
