Inspired by... Bizet's The Pearl Fishers

When someone first requested The Pearl Fishers as a bracelet subject, it was a little challenging. Obviously, the shell with pearl was a given and that there would be lots of pearl seed beads. But what about the rest?
It’s a love story but not a normal one. Two Boys love girl. Both boys love each other like brothers. Girl is a priestess so she can't love either one of them. But she does. So, it’s a big mess… a mess with beautiful music and singing but a mess none the less.
Eventually, I decided on this hand with a henna design to represent Leila as priestess. After all this is where the problem lies. Without those vows, it’s just an "everyday" love triangle.
But the heart? Now that was complicated… all those multiple complex connections of love. I had seen this charm for years and thought it "generic".
But suddenly in the light of this beautiful story those concentric hearts took on many layers of meaning. Click below to see more...
