Remembering Lorin Mazel and Romeo and Juliet

Posted by Cindy Battisti on 07 13 2014

Musical Obsession.

When I was about 11 years old I was obsessed with a recording of Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet conducted by Lorin Maazel. I had no idea who he was, but his name was burnt into my mind as "the best".

I had that 4 record set out of the library constantly and when the library decommissioned records, I bought it for about 25 cents. Still have it someplace, even though I have no way to play it. It seems like a part of me.

After 84 years of wonderful music, Mr. Maazel left us over the weekend, but his work will live on. Farewell Maestro. Thanks so much for all you gave to everyone.

What obsessions from your youth still affect you?
