A strong willed and strong of heart young woman is caught between passion, love and politics. Three men will tear each other apart to possess her. But Elvira's heart beats for one man alone: Not to the King of Spain, Carlo, not to rich Silva, but to the bandit Ernani!

Each bead and charm of the Ernani Opera Bracelet represents a character or moment from Verdi's work. Some of the most important beads and charms are described below and you can see all of the symbolic descriptions on the spiral chart photo above or to the left.  Also, a story chart explaining the symbolism of the beads and charms accompanies every bracelet. Click here to see the chart.

  • Bandit Ernani, who is really a nobleman, is a brown faceted bead, his bandits are smaller brown beads.
  • Elegant Elvira is a delicate glass pearl. A glass heart encasing a rose signifies her love for Ernani.
  • Silva is a faceted black bead, while not without honor, he is black hearted. Long double cone beads in green and black reflect his jealousy and need for vengeance.
  • King Carlo is a sparking gold glass faceted bead, three small glass gunmetal beads symbolize the three cannon shots which signal his rise to Holy Roman Emperor (represented by the crown charm).
  • Charms on the bracelet include: a goblet (the bandit's drinking song), the jewel box (Silva's riches), the horn (symbolizing Ernani's promise to Silva) and entwined hearts representing the love of Ernani and Elvira.
  • A dagger charm with a blood red heart and blood droplet symbolizes the tragic fate of Ernani.
