Verdi vividly brings to vivid life Shakespeare's beloved old knight, Falstaff, known from the Bard's plays Henry IV (parts 1 and 2) and The Merry Wives of Windsor. Falstaff thinks he will find himself a "sugar-lady", but instead receives his comeuppance from some very wise and wily women!
