Earlier in my Opera Bracelets journey, some people would snarkily say- "Can't wait to see one about the Dialogues of the Carmelites!"
I think they thought it would be gory with head beads and blood droplets (and who would buy that?). However, when the time came to create this bracelet upon customers' requests, the facts of this story led in a totally different direction. First of all it's based on a true story, the details of which are moving and horrific. The Martyrs of Compiègne went to their deaths believing that their sacrifice would bring peace. Shortly after their deaths, the reign of terror finished and many lives are thought to have been saved.
What started as irreverent challenge now took on a serious tone.
I chose glass beads in browns, black and ivory to evoke the traditional Carmelite habits of the nuns. A fleur de lis charm symbolizes the setting of France. A praying hands charm symbolizes the nuns singing psalms and hymns as they approach their deaths. An angel wing heart represents their martyrdom.
All "Inspired By..." Series Bracelets come with a card that identifies the symbolism of the charms and colors used.
